17 Jan 2007 (BANG Showbiz) - Jennifer Aniston plans to buck the current trend amongst celebrities to adopt children from the third by adopting an American baby

The former 'Friends' star has reportedly been considering adoption for some time and has instructed her lawyers to approach several different adoption agencies in Los Angeles on her behalf after splitting from boyfriend Vince Vaughn late last year.

A source told Britain's Grazia magazine: "Jen has thrown herself into adopting and wants it to happen straight away. She toyed with the idea while she was with Vince but began looking in December after they split."

However, Jennifer - the ex-wife of Brad Pitt - has decided not to follow the current celebrity trend of adopting a child from abroad.

The source added: "She turned to friends for advice, including Oprah Winfrey, who advised her to adopt an African child, but she has settled on an American baby."

Madonna and Brad's new partner Angelina Jolie are among the stars who have adopted from abroad.

Angelina took in Maddox, five, from Cambodia and has also given a home to two-year-old Ethiopian child Zahara.

Madonna caused a storm last year by adopting 16-month-old David Banda from Malawi.

I wish her the best...may it help her complete the journey she is taking right now.

It is so refreshing to hear that she is considering adopting a disadvantaged child from the U.S. We certainly have many, many American children that need such a good and for her to do this would help point that out. Of course orphaned children all over the world need help, but since recently it seems celebrities are adopting from other countries, it does my heart good to see she's going to help remind Americans that we have a lot of children right here that are desperate for help. In light of that, she is doing more good for our country than other the other celebrities who are labeled as "saints" - we need more saints here at home!

She has a kind heart and I wish her all the best!
