April 10, 2008 (Sawf News) - Five time Grammy Award-winning country pop singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood rose to fame when she won the fourth season of American Idol. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was certified seven times platinum and is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history.
Born on March 10, 1983 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Stephen and Carole Underwood, Carrie was raised on her parents' farm in rural Checotah, Oklahoma.
Carrie graduated from Checotah High School in 2001 and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in mass communication and an emphasis in journalism.
She auditioned for American Idol in the summer of 2004 and was crowned the winner of the fourth season on May 25, 2005.
Carrie's second album, Carnival Ride, was released on October 23, 2007 and certified double platinum as of December 14, 2007.
Carrie dated Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford from August 2007 to early 2008.
The couple broke up over text.
"It was completely mutual," Underwood told Extra about her breakup. "We broke up over text so ... it's like 'peace out.' "
