April 7, 2008 (Sawf News) - Grammy Award winning American R&B singer, record and film producer; actress, and fashion designer, Beyoncé Giselle Knowles rose to fame as the lead singer of the R&B girl band Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time.
Born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas, Beyoncé is the daughter of costume designer Tina (née Beyincé) and record manager Mathew Knowles, and the older sister of actress and singer-songwriter Solange Knowles.
Beyoncé released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, in 2003. The album entered the Billboard 200 at number one selling 317,000 copies in its first week, and was certified platinum three weeks later on June 22, 2003.
Dangerously in Love has sold over four million copies in the U.S. and over twelve million copies worldwide.
Beyoncé's second studio album, B'Day, was released worldwide on September 4, 2006, and in the US the next day, to coincide with her twenty-fifth birthday.
The album debuted at No 1 position in the US and sold 541,000 copies in its first week, making it her highest first-week sales as a solo artist.
Beyoncé won seven Grammy awards, five in 2004, one in 2006 and one in 2007.
She is currently working on her third studio album
Beyoncé and rapper Jay-Z, 38, married at Jay-Z's New York City home in Tribeca apartment Friday, April 4.
The two had been dating since 2002.
