18 January 2008 (Sawf News) - Prince William, the second-in-line to the throne, flew his fist solo sortie ever Wednesday, January 16, in a propeller-driven Grob 115E Tutor light aircraft at RAF's Cranwell School in Lincolnshire as part of his RAF training.
After eight days of aircraft familiarization and dual flying, his flight instructor hopped out of the two seater aircraft after a dual sortie and told the incredulous Prince to 'get on with it.'
Not too sure if his instructor had made the right call William, who himself felt he could do with some more dual flying, did just what his instructor asked him to do.
"So I just did it, and once you got up in the air it was fine," he said.
After landing back the Prince called the experience "an amazing feeling."
"I couldn't believe it," he said.
After completing his basic flying training William, who is addressed in the RAF as Flying Officer William Wales, will move to RAF Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire where he will be trained on the faster Tucano T1 aircraft.
William will eventually learn to fly the Squirrel helicopter.
