PARIS (AFP) - The Argentinian-born Italian chef at Mirazur restaurant in Menton on the Franco-Italian border has worked with the biggest names in French cuisine: Bernard Loiseau, Alain Passard, Alain Ducasse and Guy Martin.
"He is a young prodigy who approaches cuisine like a virtuoso can tap into the rebel soul," said GaultMillau ahead of the release of its 2009 guide on Thursday.
Italy and France are "two sources of inspiration for a signature cuisine that is free-minded," said GaultMillau.
GaultMillau had designated Colagreco the gastronomic world's revelation of the year in 2007.
This year's award for best newcomer chef goes to Pascal Vuillemin, of Le Rive Gauche restaurant in Tours, while the Chateau de la Muire in Tinqueux in the Paris region was named establishment of the year.
The GaultMillau guide rates a total of 3,500 restaurants in France.
