TOKYO (AFP) - Among those who expressed worry, 54 percent said they felt anxious about life after retirement while 48 percent said they were concerned about their health, the survey conducted by the Cabinet Office revealed.
Seventy-two percent of survey respondents called for the government to reform the social security system, particularly in the medical and pension fields, the poll showed.
An expansion of income disparities and the development of an aging society, coupled with the upcoming large-scale retirement of baby boomers, are believed to be boosting public fears, Kyodo News said.
The Cabinet Office, which has conducted a similar survey every year since 1958, said Saturday it carried out the latest poll between October and November last year on 10,000 people aged over 20, of whom 59.4 percent responded.
