September 3, 2008 (Sawf News) - A British watchdog body has banned public display of two posters of Angelina Jolie's recent action film Wanted, following public complaints that the images were unsuitable for children as they glamorized the use of guns and violence.

One of the posters shows Jolie sprawled on the hood of a car in a short dress wielding two guns, the other has James McAvoy pointing two pistols directly at the camera.
"We acknowledged most viewers would understand the posters reflected the content of an action film," the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) of UK said in a statement. "However, we considered that because the ads featured a glamorous actress, action poses, several images of, or related to guns and aspirational text, they could be seen to glamorize the use of guns and violence."

Universal Pictures UK defended the posters highlighting the comic book nature of the film.
Interestingly, the ASA acted on the basis of just 17 complaints from the public, reflecting heightened concerns about the spread of violence in the country.
The banning is unlikely to make any material difference to the commercial success of the film which was released in the country in June.
