Dawson tells In Touch that they stopped having sex in March because "it just didn't feel right" but "even after we stopped having sex, we would still kiss occasionally."
Aldridge, 19, first met Dawson, 28, in November 2006, at the home of her sister, Kim Toller, while he was dating Jamie Lynn.
"We were both really attracted to each other," Dawson says. "He totally instigated it and pursued me. His friends would tell me that he liked me, that he thought I was pretty."
Subsequently, the two met several times and "kissed randomly" before the relationship got "hot and heavy" in Spring 2007, when Aldridge was still seeing Jamie.
"You never knew if they were broken up or not, because it changed from day to day!" says Dawson.
The couple made no attempt to hide their relationship. Jason Alexander, Britney Spears' first husband and a native of the Spears' hometown, Kentwood, La. tells the magazine, "Kelli and Casey have been a couple on and off for a few years. They were a really tight couple, but I think it was hard for Kelli, having Jamie Lynn in the picture."
