July 31, 2008 (Sawf News) - Britney Spears' conservatorship was extended to the end of the year on Thursday, July 31, by Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz, with a review set for October 28, a date by which Britney's doctors expect her to be in a position to manage her own affairs.
The doctors believe that the conservatorship could end on October 28 and both Britney and Jamie Spears, her father and conservator, are willing to go along with the doctors though the judge agreed "reluctantly".
According to TMZ, Conservatorship managers plan to wean Britney away from the total control that Jamie now exercises so that she is ready to be on her own.
"The extension of the conservatorship was at the request and suggestion of Britney's doctors," a source close to the singer told People. "They've indicated she's made great improvement, but it's a work in progress. Jamie Spears doesn't want the conservatorship to last a day longer than the doctors recommend."
Britney's court-appointed attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, did not seek to extend the restraining order against Sam Lutfi, because the singer has cut ties with her former manager. Besides, the conservatorship allows Jamie to control whom Britney meets.
