July 31, 2008 (Sawf News) - A temporary conservatorship created to oversee Britney and her estate is likely to be extended, or made permanent, when it comes up for final review before Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz on Thursday, July 31.
"I would be very surprised if the court ends her father's control so soon," Terry K. Wasserman, a mental health attorney not involved in Britney's case told People. "It's rare for someone to regain their capacity in just 60 days."
The decision by Britney's lawyer Laura Wasser to settle her child custody dispute with former husband Kevin Federline out of court on July 17 was a tacit acknowledgment that the conservatorship could remain in place for a long time.
On May 29, after reviewing Britney's medical records Commissioner Goetz had observed that Britney's condition remained 'tenuous'.
"It's my understanding that her condition is somewhat tenuous. Her medical condition remains the same," the commissioner said.
Britney's court appointed probate attorney, Samuel Ingham, concurred that Britney wasn't ready to manage her own affairs.
"In fact it could be harmful to her to participate," he said.
A temporary conservatorship was created by Commissioner Reva Goetz on February 1 to oversee Britney and her estate, while the troubled pop star recovers her mental health.
Britney's father Jamie Spears and his attorney Andrew Wallet were appointed conservators of her estate and assets.
The conservatorship is likely to remain in place till medical experts tell the court that Britney has regained her mental health, something that could take a few months to a lifetime. Till then Jamie will control not just her multimillion-dollar estate but also her movements and interactions.
A restraining order against Britney's former manager Sam Lutfi will also be reviewed tomorrow.
According to E! online Jamie's camp will not seek an extension of the order and instead rely on Jamie's ability to control Britney's movements to keep Lutfi at bay.
