July 13, 2008 (Sawf News) - Brad Pitt was by Angelina Jolie's side throughout the delivery of their twins on Saturday, July 12. The couple talked and laughed as Jolie's gynecologist, Dr. Michel Sussmann, performed a C-section under epidural anesthesia.
"[Brad] was my assistant" during the delivery joked Sussman. The operation was performed with "absolutely no problems."
"It was an epidural, so [Angelina] was awake and speaking and laughing. They were happy," he explained.
"He was ... perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved and very emotional," added Sussmann.
Jolie is expected to stay at Lenval hospital in Nice, France, for a few more days.
"She will stay for a few days. You know, in Europe it isn't like in the United States, where the patients go home after three days. They will stay a bit longer until everything is okay," Sussman elaborated.
Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, on Saturday night, July 12, 2008. Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.
The two new bundles of joy pushed up the count of the Jolie-Pitt brood to half a dozen. They will soon join their four existing siblings Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; Shiloh, 2 at their 1,000-acre, $70 million, 35 bedrooms estate in South France, a property leased by the celebrity couple for three years.
