July 6, 2008 (Sawf News) - Following up an earlier denial by her rep, Madonna has issued a personal statement refuting rumors of an affair with New York Yankees star, Alex Rodriguez, and denying that she planned to divorce her husband of seven years, British filmmaker Guy Richie.
"My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce. I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study."
Last week Dominican American baseball player Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) and his wife Cynthia separated, allegedly over his past dalliances and a rumored affair with Madonna.
Before the separation, A-Rod was seen visiting Madonna's West Side home late at night.
Some reports suggest that Cynthia left A-Rod for Lenny Kravitz.
A source close to Cynthia told People, "The embarrassment over Madonna was the last straw. She flew to Paris to get out of town before everything blew up between them. There is no affair with Lenny Kravitz. They are good friends.'"
Madonna is currently in New York City with her husband Guy Richie and children, Lourdes, 11, Rocco, 7 and David Banda, 21 months. She is preparing for her upcoming Sticky and Sweet tour to promote her eleventh studio album Hard Candy.
There have been persistent rumors over the last few months that her marriage to Richie is on the rocks.
Madonna is reported to have hired pit bull lawyer, Fiona Shackleton, who repped Prince Charles and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, to protect her $600 million estate, as the couple did not have a prenup agreement.
Ritchie has countered Madnonna's move by retaining the respected London law firm Forsters.
