On The View, which is being broadcast from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas this week, co-host Sherri Shephard cut to the chase and opened by quizzing Rihanna, 20, on her relationship with Chris Brown.
"We hang out a lot. We're very close," said a giggling Rihanna. "He's an amazing person but we are not dating. We're very close friends, though. Very, very close."
So what is the difference between dating and very very close, wondered Whoopi Goldberg.
"There's a very big difference. I think you know!" said Rihanna, bursting out in laughter.
Did she mean what we think she meant?
Whatever! No one else is buying that line, least of all Chris's mother.
Over the weekend, while Rihanna visited GBK Productions' Fire & Ice gifting lounge for the BET Awards, along with Chris and his mother, Joyce Hawkins, an E! online source overhead Joyce saying, "Rihanna is the sexiest and sweetest girl Chris has ever dated."
