"Brooke really wanted to walk down the aisle in a big way, but Charlie insisted they keep it simple and small," a source told People magazine.
Sheen, 42, who met Mueller, 30, at a party held by Rush Hour 3 director Brett Ratner in 2006, told the press in September 2007 that he fell in love within days.
"I sensed our connection straight away, but I didn't want to jump the gun and put her in a position of any kind of pressure.
"It was about three days after we met that I mentioned it. We fell in love very fast," he said.
He proposed to Mueller with a $500,000 custom-designed 11-carat yellow diamond and platinum ring in Costa Rica last June.
Sheen has been married twice and has been linked with multiple women, some of dubious virtue.
He has a daughter, Cassandra Jade Estevez (b. 1985), with girlfriend Paula Profit. Charlie and Paula never married.
His first marriage to Donna Peele in September 1995 lasted a little over a year.
He married actress Denise Richards after meeting her while filming Good Advice in 2001. They have two daughters, Sam, 4, and Lola, nearly 3.
Denise filed for a divorce from Charlie in April 2005. The divorce was finalized in November 2006 amidst a lot of acrimony, which continues even today.
