May 6, 2008 (Sawf News) - Britney Spears appeared personally in court for a hearing in her child custody dispute with ex Kevin Federline on Tuesday, May 6, and won expanded visitations with her toddlers, Sean Preston and Jayden James.
The exact terms of the new custody arrangement, which were possibly arrived at by mutual consent during a break in the hearing, when the two camps engaged in private discussions outside the courtroom, were not disclosed, but could include an occasional overnight stay with the toddlers.
According to TMZ, the expanded visitations will start with three visits every week, but a month down the line they will include an overnight stay every week.
Britney was earlier allowed 2-3 visitations every week.
According to OK sources, overnight visitations are likely to be conditional, not automatic.
Britney was accompanied to court by her father and conservator Jamie Spears, her mother Lynne Spears and her lawyer Blair Berk for the hearing that got underway at 9:40 am.
"We are so pleased with Britney's progress, and we are appreciative of the court's recognition of this progress," her parents said in statement after the hearing.
Britney, who was seen teary eyed during a break in the hearing, was smiling when she left the court and walked to her SUV without speaking to the press.
Kevin attended the hearing along with his lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan.
"It is a cautious step, but a step forward nonetheless," said Kaplan . "We are seeing signs of [Britney's] progress, and consistency over time is something welcome by Kevin ... The children are doing great."
