"Yes, we know," Linda told E! "He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him."
According to press reports, the two married at Mariah's home in Eleuthera, the Bahamas, on Wednesday, April 30, in the presence of a few friends. The ceremony was described as "very impulsive."
However, Linda was not ready to go into details.
"I'm not going to give you any details, but we are happy for him," she said.
"Everyone is happy to see her happy," a friend of Carey told The Post. "And it could work out -" some people know each other for five years and get divorced, maybe this is true instant love."
However, there are concerns.
"There was no pre-nup - there wasn't time," said a worried source.
Mariah and Nick grew close in March, when Nick directed the video for Mariah’s new single “Bye Bye”
"They have been smitten with each other for days, weeks," a friend of Maria told Daily News. "And she's always had a crush on him."
Mariah was recently seen wearing a large rock on her ring finger. A rep for jeweler Jacob & Co confirmed to E! that Nick paid $2.5 million for the 17-carat ring that has a 10 carat square, emerald-cut fancy light-pink diamond as the center stone.
Mariah, 39, split from her first husband, Tommy Mottola, in 1998, after five years of marriage.
Cannon was engaged to Victoria's Secret angel Selita Ebanks on May 7, 2007 when he got down on one knee in Times Square and presented Ebanks with a 12-carat diamond ring while the words "Selita, will you marry me?" were projected on the MTV Jumbotron.
They broke their engagement in October saying they needed to focus on their careers.
