Star, which first reported the story, has issued a terse retraction on its website saying, "After further investigation, the sources are not standing by their story."
Star editor-in-chief Candace Trunzo had earlier told the Daily News, "We talked to someone who was there. It was at the French Quarter Wedding Chapel."
However, the New Orleans minister who would have conducted the wedding, had it taken place, refused to confirm it even after he was reportedly offered a $3,000/- inducement by Star.
Later the minister told OK! editor in chief Sarah Ivens that he had never met Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
