The 28-year-old actress, looking happy and playful, was seen kissing her four-year-old son Ryder.
Also in Miami, staying at a hotel nearby, was former boyfriend Owen Wilson, who is playing host at a film festival.
Kate attended the screening of Cutlass, a short film that marks her directorial debut, at the festival.
Kate and Owen, 39, have been seen spending time with each other.
Their breakup in Jun 2007 is believed to have triggered Wilson's depression and drug use and subsequent attempt at suicide in August 2007.
