11 February 2008 (Sawf News) - In an interview with W magazine Ryan Phillippe says that the reasons for the breakdown of his eight years marriage with Reese Witherspoon "are far more complicated and far less interesting than it's made out to be."
Alluding to the speculation that his Stop-Loss co-star, Abbie Cornish, was a factor in the breakdown Ryan is quoted by People magazine as saying, "To look and search for these salacious reasons, to pin it on a person, or a moment in someone's life, it's not realistic."
The 33-year-old actor termed his divorce in October 2007 as "the darkest, saddest place I had ever been."
"I spend a lot of time just holed up in my house in Los Angeles," he says. "I don't really go out because I know it's going to turn into a photo shoot."
Ryan laments the only reason paparazzi follow him "is because I was married to the highest-paid actress in the world. Even though I'm not with her any longer, there is a certain amount of notoriety that I guess sticks beyond."
But he is happy that he and Witherspoon, 31, "have done a really good job at keeping things peaceable and completely focused on" the children.
The former couple has two children, eight-year-old daughter Ava and three-year-old son Deacon.
