4 January 2008 (Sawf News) - Britney Spears handed over her toddlers, Sean Preston and Jayden James, to their father Kevin Federline at 11 PM pacific time on Thursday, December 3
The troubled pop star was believed to have been "under the influence of an unknown substance", reports TMZ.
LAPD officers were called to Spears' house in Beverly Hills after the troubled pop star refused to handover custody of her toddlers to their father Kevin Federline at the pre-arranged time following completion of their visitation.
Several police cars and an ambulance were seen parked outside the house and LAPD helicopters searched the grounds with spotlights.
Federline's bodyguards went to collect Sean, 2, and Jayden, 1, at the prearranged time of 7 PM Thursday, January 3, but Britney refused to handover custody, reports Us magazine.
Explaining how the police were forced to intervene into what is essentially a family custody dispute, Britney lawyer, Sorrell Trope, told the magazine:
"In a normal case when someone shows up with a certified court order saying the kids need to be somewhere else, the police see to it that the order is obeyed. But that is in a normal case."
Sorrel Trope has filed papers in the court requesting to be relieved as Britney's attorney in her custody dispute, but continues to represent her till the request is heard and disposed off on February 4.
Before the cops were called Federline attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, was spotted at Britney's house.
According to OK! magazine when cops initially turned up at Britney’s gated community, The Summit, they could not enter because the court appointed monitor, who is required to carry legal documents to facilitate police intervention at all times, did not have the documents.
Kaplan then drove over to Britney’s house and the police were able to enter.
