According to sources, it was the Legally Blonde actress who ended the romance, because she had just gotten out of a divorce and didn’t have time for Gyllenhaal.
"They just recently broke up. It's totally and completely over," People quoted a source close to Witherspoon, as saying.
"Reese was the one who had to do it. She just got out of a divorce and was so concerned with her family, she just didn't have the time for him and he really demanded that,” the source added.
However, the source maintained that it was a clean break-up, and both Reese and Jake are still good friends.
"They're still friends. Things are fine, but it was a clean break – [there's] no chance of getting back together,” the source said.
Reese and ex-husband Ryan Phillippe split in October last year, after seven years of marriage and two children.
The actress begun dating Gyllenhaal in March this year while filming the upcoming thriller Rendition. (ANI)
