Washington, Oct 2: Actress Scarlett Johansson has blasted celebrities who support charity campaigns only to boost their own image.
The Lost In Translation actress says that there are many celebrities who tender their full-fledged support to the campaigns run for some causes, but in reality they neither know what the cause is all about nor do they take pains to conduct some research on it.
"Somebody gave me a great phrase yesterday - 'idiot wind'. It's what comes out of your mouth. "I think certain people are guilty of it by supporting something when they haven't done the proper research,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.
“You're always going to have people who hop on the bandwagon when something is hip,” she added.
Johansson herself is fronting global Aids campaign Red to raise money for women and children in Africa, and she insists that her support to the movement has "nothing to do with (her) career".
She however, strongly believes that people must raise their voice for those causes which they themselves believe in, and think are important.
"It's important for people in the public eye to advocate what we believe in. We're given this voice and we should use it," she said. (ANI)
