Dubbed “the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel” by Newsweek magazine, Belgian-born designer Diane von Furstenburg has carved a niche all her own in the fashion world since her entrance in the early 1970’s. Her style is synonymous with class, sophistication and clean lines. With her latest spring collection on the runway, it’s not hard to see why women the world over consider her an icon.
Furstenburg offers up elegantly deconstructed looks: mostly tunics, shifts, and animal prints matched up with solids. The pieces reflect her taste for mixing loose shapes with dressy fabrics, making them comfortable to wear and yet not compromising on style.
Shift dresses were accompanied with equally long jackets in bold patterns. A loose flowing top would be paired with a contrasting tight pair of pants. A strappy tunic was Paired with wide-legged jeans. Dresses came in a wide range of styles, from shifts to flowing designs in solid colors, to wraps. Shorts, were typically small and fitted with loose tops.
The show was opened and closed by the wrap dress, Furstenburg’s signature creation. This particular wrap is her own classic reinterpreted for the next generation, a conventional shirt dress done in python lame, low neckline and sash belt.
