On September 7th, 2006, Radio City Music Hall in New York City hosted the 3rd Fashion Rocks, an annual concert designed to celebrate the relationship between fashion and music. It also kicked off New York’s Fall Fashion Week. The curator this year was musical legend, fashion connoisseur, and philanthropist Sir Elton John. The concert showcased some of this year’s brightest singing talents including Christina Aguilera, Beyonce (formerly of Destiny’s Child), Bon Jovi, Rihanna, The Black Eyed Peas, Daddy Yankee, Jamie Foxx, Jay-Z, country singers Faith Hill and husband Tim McGraw, and the Pussycat Dolls. Performances included everything from rhythm and blues and classic pop to country and modern rap.
Among the presenters for this event were some of fashion and Hollywood’s great stars, including designer Max Azria, designer Christopher Bailey of Burberry, actress Mischa Barton of O.C. fame, actress Rachel Bilson, designer Marc Jacobs, designer Donna Karan, and Hollywood actress Denise Richards.
The Fashion Rocks red carpet was dominated by relatively short hemlines, minimal or no accessories, and high-heeled shoes. Showstoppers of the evening included Mischa Barton, who wore a light pink babydoll dress and open-toed blue heels by Burberry Prorsum. Christina Aguilera entranced in a black beaded flapper dress reminiscent of the 1920’s, designed by Elie Saab, with a pair of matching pumps. Actress Rachel Bilson chose a dark blue off-the-shoulder style with high hemline and coordinating blue pumps. Denise Richards also opted for an off-the-shoulder style in teal blue, accessorized with a thick silver bracelet, matching clutch bag and strappy heeled sandals. Stealing the show was songstress Rihanna, who wore a striped silver gown with thin straps and a slit down the middle, matched with silver sandals.
The profits from this year’s benefit will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation, a leading charitable organization pledged to support HIV/AIDS prevention programs and services relating to the care of those afflicted with HIV or AIDS.
