The You, Me, and Dupree star won the coveted role against competition from Sienna Miller and Anne Hathaway, reports Pagesix.
The film by Chicago director Rob Marshall tells the story of famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis ) and the women in his life.
Hudson joins Hollywood’s leading actresses Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren and Judi Dench in the cast.
A new song, Cinema Italiano, was written for Hudson's character who will do a sexy dance number with Lewis.
Filming is expected to start in September 2008.
