LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Beatty, 69, who rose to fame as the male lead in "Bonnie and Clyde" (1967) and won an Oscar for directing "Reds" in 1981, filed a lawsuit in May 2005 against the Tribune Co. claiming he had held the rights to the Dick Tracy comic strip character since 1985.
On Friday a Los Angeles judge decided to let the issue go to trial after rejecting Tribune's request to conclude the proceedings in their favor.
According to the suit, Beatty, who directed and starred opposite the singer Madonna in the first "Dick Tracy", now wants to make a sequel.
