Victoria’s Secret is an upscale retailer manufacturing clothing, fragrance, and beauty products. Based in Columbus, Ohio, it operates more than 900 retail outlets in the US. The company, which gets its’ name from Queen Victoria, is mostly known for its line of best-selling lingerie. It recently added a line of loungewear and coordinating accessories called PINK, geared towards the college-age female population.
Victoria’s Secret enhanced its already growing profile by telecasting its fashion shows and using a bevy of supermodels to display its line. The shows are an extension of the company’s slick marketing strategy, giving the public what it wants and then some. They are known for being a combination of entertainment, extravagance, and luxury with a bit of fun thrown in. This year’s show was no exception.
The show moved to Hollywood from New York, giving it an air of added excitement. It took place on the 17th November in the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles. The cast of models parading down the runway included: Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Caroline Trentini, Angela Lindvall, Izabel Goulart, Jessica Stam, Karolina Kurkova, Anna Beatrize Barros, Hana Soukopova, Miranda Kerr, Elise Crombez, Heather Marks, Oluchi Onweagha, Riley Keough, and international star Gisele Bundchen.
The show’s theme was “Sexy”, and it didn’t fail to please. Models strutted down the runway to the hit “Sexyback”, sung by Justin Timberlake. The catwalk was colored in silver and the word “SEXY” was written in gold. On came a parade of stylish and fashionable undergarments: everything from brassieres and panties to corsets and angel wings. A line of Scottish tartan underwear was followed by models dressed in the uniform of air hostesses and cheerleaders. The stage was colored and lit up in shades of pink, to set off their newest line. The barely dressed but well-accessorized models showed off one design after another while a group of dancers performed in dark squares. Finally at the end, gospel singers replaced the dancers, artificial snow fell, and a fully-dressed angel wearing white made for an unforgettable evening.
The show airs December 5th, 10 p.m. EST, on CBS.
