October 06, 2008, (Sawf News) - Sanjay's Gadhvi's Kidnap is a lame effort to create a taut revenge drama without a villain. Consequently, Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan deliver performances that are sweet and flat, like sodas left overnight in the fridge. However, Minissha Lamba makes the film 'bare'ly interesting.
The filmmakers fail to deliver on their promise to show a mean streak in Imran but make good on their promise of showing Minissha in different light (clothing).
During its pre-release promotions, Minissha's show of skin in the film was hyped as a USP, and gamely defended by the 23-year-old actress who said the script required it. It didn't. Minissha's character did not influence the flow of the narrative at any point of time It wasn't germane to the story. She may well have been dressed like a Victorian lady, with a chastity belt to boot!
Minissha also defended her 'make (very little) over' saying bikini clad women are commonplace on a beach. What she did not mention was that in the film, she doesn't stop at wearing a bikini on the beach, she wears bikini like dresses at home and in public places. When her father (Sanjay Dutt) had to hug her after eight years of being separated, there just wasn't enough cloth on Minissha for him to place his hand.
"With both the director and Minnisha amenable to it, even if the script didn't demand it, what can be wrong with a good show of skin?" is what we think. The jigglies looked perfect, as did the rest of her body whenever we managed to pull our eyes free of the 'mamarian' tug
The film was a great opportunity for Minissha to come good as a Bollywood leading lady. Not only did she get to co-star with actors like Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan, her role was central to the drama. It is ironical, she chose to flaunt her curves more than her acting abilities. Maybe, she just flaunted what she had.
Not surprisingly, the film is facing an uphill task at the box office, despite Minissha's twin hills effort. We saw the film on Monday at an NCR multiplex with barely a handful of people in the hall.
