While the top three of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan – are busy making news for one reason or the other, quietly, noiselessly, Akshay Kumar, the action and romantic hero of many Hindi films, is picking up the largest amounts for endorsements of several consumer products this season. Akki, as fans call him, has tied up an agreement with the entertainment division of Madison Communications to manage his commercial appearances and endorsements in a two-year deal worth Rs.10 crores. Madison Communications Film Promotions and Entertainment unit (Mates) will now handle all the commercial engagements except films for Akshay Kumar. With a 17-year career and 100 films behind him, Akshay Kumar is still one of the younger lead actors in his mid-30s. “He has delivered big hits in a row in the past year,” says the agency, “Beginning with Khaki, he has gone on to create great success in Waqt and Garam Masala. He is our first celebrity management client and we will surely get some ‘crackling deals’ for him!”
