October 03, 2008, (Sawf News) - Shah Rukh Khan's character, Rizvan Khan, suffers from Asperger Syndrome, a relatively milder form of autism, in the upcoming film My Name is Khan production for which gets underway on December 15 in Los Angeles.
The condition is characterized by difficulties in social interaction and restricted, stereotyped patterns of behavior and interests. In the film, Shah Rukh, is detained as a suspected terrorist because he is a Muslim and his impairment makes his behavior suspicious.
"Shibani Bhatija, the screenplay writer of the film has researched this disorder very accurately and I can't wait to see Shah Rukh portray it," writes Karan Johar, producer and director on his blog.
"The ensemble cast has recently been finalized and we have started the process of song recording. I'm going for my final location recce with my Director of Photography, Ravi K. Chandran, Production Designer, Sharmishta Roy and Costumes Designers, Manish Malhotra and Shiraz Siddique," says Karan.
Shah Rukh Khan is currently busy with the filming of Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which is slotted for release on December 12. The release of Shah Rukh's home production Billo Barber has been pushed back to January 2009.
The first half of the film is based on a true story that happened to a couple and Karan Johar has bought the story rights from the couple.
Kajol plays romantic lead in the film opposite Shah Rukh.
Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan have so far starred together in the following films, all of which turned out to be hits - Baazigar (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001).
