September 10, 2008 (Sawf News) - Vinay Sinha who produced the Rajkumar Santoshi directed cult comedy Andaaz Apna Apna (1994) wants to make a sequel starring Aamir Khan and Salman Khan.
Speaking exclusively to Sawf News, Sinha says there has been a media buzz about a remake.
"I have been hearing news that both Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are keenly interested in doing a sequel to Andaaz Apna Apna. Rajkumar Santoshi too has expressed his interest in directing it," he says.
However, it appears to Sinha that Aamir wants to produce the sequel himself.
"From what I have gathered from their interviews in print and the game show 10 Ka Dum, where Aamir and Salman spoke about the sequel, I feel they want to make it themselves. Aamir wants to produce it under his banner and Santoshi too wants to join in with him as a co-producer."
Sinha suggests that he and Aamir can jointly produce the film instead.
"But I would like to approach them all now and present them a proposal. I would want to produce it myself. I am also open to further negotiations if Aamir wants to come in as a co-producer for the sequel."
On his blog, and while appearing on 10 Ka Dum, Aamir has been critical of Sinha for not giving Andaaz Apna Apna the publicity it deserved, at the time of its release.
Aamir's take is: the film was badly marketed causing it to flop. The film's popularity soared later through the home video circuit and repeat telecasts on television channels.
So does Sinha still think that Aamir will be interested in working with him for the sequel?
"I am sure he will. The film binds us all together," says Sinha. "I am hoping for the best."
Sinha is keen to rope in Govinda also for the sequel.
"Right now, I have just come back from abroad after shooting a major portion of my yet untitled upcoming comedy starring Govinda, Rimi Sen and Vidya Malvade. It is being directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
"Govinda was a part of Andaaz Apna Apna in a special appearance along with Juhi Chawla. I would love to have him in my sequel.
"Contrary to reports that Govinda gives producers trouble nowadays, post his Partner success, I have been pleasantly surprised by his professionalism. He never gave me any room for complaint during the entire making of my film."
