Photo Credit: Sawf NewsAugust 7, 2008 (Sawf News) - Having earned a whopping Rs 500 crore for the industry through his recent films, Akshay Kumar is not Bollywood's king but its kingmaker, who just deposed the current king, whoever that may be, and installed Big B in his place!
In a tête-à-tête with the press at Taj President, South Mumbai, on Wednesday August 6 evening Akshay was asked if in view of the back to back success of his recent films he should now be considered King of Bollywood.
"I consider only one actor to be truly the king of the Hindi film industry and that is Amitabh Bachchan," he declared. "That man has been here in this industry for over 35-40 years now. He has conquered it all and yet he remains so humble. I have done seven films with him and I truly believe that he is the king. There is definitely no doubt about that."
Speaking with Sawf News he played down his streak of success.
"I am at such a stage of my career that success and failure don't matter to me anymore. Today it is more about living up to my own expectations. I have now become very selfish and greedy where it comes to work. I want to surprise and shock my fans and even myself by doing unusual things."
Akshay has lately been paying a lot of attention to his fitness regime. He didn't miss out on his workouts while shooting in Australia for Singh Is Kinng and is reported to have stayed fit by climbing up and down 80 stories everyday.
We didn't see an ounce of flab on his body at the press meet and asked him if fitness had perhaps become an obsession with him?
He laughed and replied, "You can see there is a lot of competition around for me nowadays. I love working with younger heroes but I am also scared of them. They are all so fit. I have to match up to them if I have to work along with them. For that my coach says I need to be fit and fine."
