July 11, 2008 (Sawf News) - Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma is known for making intense cinema, woven around strong scripts and characterizations. He often works with talented newcomers, instead of established stars, letting the script and the innate abilities of his actors weave the magic for him.
Manoj Bajpai gained recognition after his performance as Bhiku Matre in Satya (1998) and Vivek Oberoi made his debut as Chandru in Company (2002), both RGV films focused on the underworld.
Adhvik Mahajan is now set to make his Bollywood debut playing lead in Contract, RGV's third film on the underworld. RGV shies away from calling the film a trilogy on the underworld because he says given a chance he will make a hundredology on the subject! Sawf News spoke to the 23-year-old newcomer who hails from Jalandhar and had to gain weight and grow a stubble to convince Ramu that he looked matured enough for his role in the film.
"I had dropped my pictures at his office and gone back to Jalandhar. Ramuji had liked my photos and was also planning to cast me in Sarkar Raj but I could not make it for some reasons," Adhvik says.
"But when I came back, he called me again and asked me to meet him. He auditioned me and his auditions went on for two and half months. He took four to five screen tests during this period. He wanted to be sure about me. He said I looked too young for the part he had in mind for me. That is when I decided to gain weight and grow stubble for the role. When I came back, he told me, 'You are ON'."

Adhvik recalls how his childhood dreams are now close to being fulfilled. "I always dreamt right from the age of seven that I would become an actor someday. I did commerce so that I could devote time to acting. Later I took to modeling and did theatre. I came to Mumbai and joined Barry John acting classes. I also participated in the National Youth Festival. Finally, I have realized my dream now."
Adhvik, a martial arts experts, has done a lot of action sequences in the film.
"Unlike all other Ram Gopal Varma films, Contract has a lot of tough action in it. I had to participate in some really hard action scenes. I have jumped from the top of a building into a sheet of glass. No Bollywood hero has attempted it before. There were glass pieces all over my body and it was a one-take scene. I have jet skied under water and my whole body was swollen after that. I enjoyed doing it all." Adhvik says.
"Contract was an extremely thrilling experience," he sums up. Not inclined to jump from the top of a building into a sheet of glass, we readily agree.
What next we ask the newcomer?
"Waiting for the results. I hope they will be positive. Right now, I am going through scripts. I have lot of aims and ambitions and make it big here."
