7 June 2007 (Sawf News) - Yashraj Films Jhoom Barabar Jhoom has become embroiled in a music controversy.

Daler Mehendi, the popular singer of Punjabi bhangra and folk ditties, who has lent his voice to many Bollywood songs, has sent legal notices to producers Yashraj Films and music directors Shankar Ehsaan Loy for wiping out his voice from the theme song of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom that is sung by Big B in the film.

The song is presented in Shankar's voice in the final version of the film.

On several television shows, Daler has been seen singing the song under the direction of Shankar, who is seen guiding the musicians.

Daler says that he sang the song for free because he respected the production house hugely. But, says he, they have played dirty with him and is now demanding Rs. 1 crore as damages for breach of trust.

Yashraj Films and Shankar have replied that Daler was aware of the situation some months ago that the song would be recorded with Shankar's voice.

"These things always happen," Shankar told DNA, "It's a creative field and actors, directors and scripts change. This is a small issue. Our lawyer is dealing with this."

Daler, however, is truly upset as he recorded the song in good faith and has every proof of the recording on video in which he is seen singing and Shankar is seen directing the recording.
