Aishwarya's career, after floundering for a long time, has just perked up after the success of Dhoom 2 and Guru. Producers are not just offering the star new films they are crafting custom projects to cash in on her success and popularity. A wedding announcement could easily put them off leaving Aishwarya where she has been all this while.
While there maybe good reasons to hold off a wedding announcement there aren't any for holding off a marriage.
In Hindu tradition an engagement signals intent, not a desire, to marry. Many Hindus actually consider engagement as the first ceremony of a marriage.
The Bachchans are staunch believers of Hindu traditions.
Following the Abhishek - Aishwarya engagement, when quizzed on a possible wedding date Amitabh hinted the wait will not be long - Since the couple has decided to marry they should go ahead and do so he said.
Amitabh's mother, Teji Bachchan, who reportedly dotes on Abhishek too is reportedly keen to see him wed.
Both Aishwarya and Abhishek have past relationships and careers to contend with so a long drawn out engagement would not be in their interest.
A possible reason why the wedding hasn’t taken place already is both Abhishek and Aishwarya are currently engrossed in their work - Abhishek is in Jaipur filming Drona and Ash is in Karjat filming Jodha Akbar.
