Katrina Kaif in Humko Deewana Kar Gaye
Katrina Kaif, 23, the gorgeous young model-turned actress revealed she was away in London shooting for Vipul Shah’s Namaste London. Till now, she has been better known for her romantic affiliation with Salman Khan, than for her acting abilities. When quizzed by Starnews as to whether her beau had proposed to her, she deftly side-stepped the question saying, “I am very young. I want to concentrate on my career. All I can say is people have a wild imagination.”
The ramp scorcher, who now hopes to replicate her magic on the silver screen, revealed she had exciting Bollywood projects on hand. Besides Namaste London, she said she was busy shooting for Deol’s home production Apne and Anees Bazmee’s Welcome. “I haven’t been around since July. Now, I am busy shooting, and once we wrap up, all my movies will release one after the other.”
The latest buzz doing the rounds was that director Rituparno Ghosh had signed her on to play Devi Choudharni in Bankim Chandra’s similarly named classic. “Yes, I'm doing Devi Choudharani with Rituparno Ghosh. The film should go on the floor early next year and it will be made in Hindi. Rituji has explained the character that I have to play in detail to me. It's a dynamic character and it will be my first woman-oriented film.” she revealed.
In order to court success, Kat will have to tame her anglicized accent to play a village belle. Katrina knew this only too well and confessed she had been taking Hindi classes and hoped to get round this handicap.
Sources close to the director Ghosh revealed that Katrina will have to learn sword-fighting and horse-riding for her role. They also said this film will precede Parineeta Director Pradeep Sarcar’s film based on the same novel with Vidya Balan. Ghosh, it is believed, will start his film early next year and the major part of it will be shot in Bangladesh.
It may be recalled that Kaif made her Bollywood debut with Boom which sank without a trace. She came into her own opposite Salman Khan as the ‘Just chill girl’ in his home production Maine Pyar Kyun Kai. With the slew of movies in hand, Kaif hoped to emerge from Salman Khan’s shadow and make her own identity in Hindi films.
